Fire Near Rifle

Fire crews are working to build containment lines around a wildfire burning on about 1,300 acres near Rifle on Friday.

The fire was reported Thursday and destroyed one home and three outbuildings Thursday night.

Two bulldozers are building fire lines, and firefighters are building lines by hand in rougher terrain. There's no estimate yet on containment.

Bureau of Land Management spokesman David Boyd says the fire hasn't grown much Friday, but says winds there have picked up. It's in the 80s and very dry.

The 95 firefighters are getting help from two air tankers dropping slurry and one helicopter dropping water. Eighty more firefighters have been requested.

The cause of the fire isn't known, but residents reported lightning in the area.
