The Colorado Department of Public Health has issued a warning about steak that may be contaminated with E.coli bacteria.
Stampede Meat, Inc. of Chicago issued a voluntary recall on June 29, 2003 that covered approximately 739,000 pounds of frozen steak. It was distributed to restaurants, institutions, retail stores and door-to-door sales companies throughout the U.S., including Colorado.
To date, 16 people have become sick from the E.coli bacteria. None are from Colorado.
E.coli can cause bloody diarrhea and intense abdominal cramps. Children and the elderly are especially vulnerable.

Whole steak is not usually associated with E.coli bacteria outbreaks. However, some products were injected with tenderizers and seasoning solutions, which could have introduced the contamination.
