Cost of Living

The cost of living in Colorado is going up, thanks to newly-implemented fees for government services.

The additional fees will raise about 72 million dollars to help the state deal with a massive budget deficit.

But State Treasurer Mike Coffman says the new fees will slow the state's economic recovery.

It costs about two dollars more to get new license plates, and 50 percent more to file documents in most civil court cases.

It will also cost an extra 25 cents each to dump worn-out tires
next year.

Many fees will have a direct impact. But others could result in an indirect impact.

Vehicle-towing services, restaurants and nursing-home owners for example could raise prices because of their higher costs for annual operating licenses.
