WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Republican's decision is despite pressure from people in his own party who feel their current nominee, state senator Doug Lamborn, is too conservative.

Hefley spokeswoman Jenny Walberg says there were discussions about the ten-term congressman running again for the Fifth Congressional District, but she did NOT give specifics.

Lamborn, of Colorado Springs, won the August Eighth primary, beating out five other Republicans who were vying for the nomination, including former Hefley aide, Jeff Crank.

Lamborn said during his campaign that his competitors were trying to present themselves as conservative as he is, but he says he didn't know if they were successful.

The Fifth Congressional District is one of the state's most conservative. It is considered a safe seat for Republicans.

Democrats have nominated Air Force veteran Jay Fawcett to run for the seat.
