Southern Colorado could become home to a new National Veterans Cemetery.

Representatives John Salazar and Doug Lamborn have introduced legislation in Washington. They are requesting funds for the cemetery.

The VA is considering a four hundred acre parcel of land near Fountain, known as Kane Ranch. The parcel is approximately four miles east of Interstate 25. The lawmakers say the land is open space, consisting of rolling hills and wonderful Front Range views.

The congressmen said El Paso County owns the land and would provide it to the VA at no charge.

They point to the need for a southern Colorado location, saying Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver will be full in the next ten years. They also say the families of southern Colorado veterans should not have to travel to Denver to visit their loved ones resting places.
