Colorado Springs Fire Investigators have ruled the cause of a fatal fire in Colorado Springs Tuesday, at 2226 Lockhaven Drive, as careless smoking.

The name of the victim hasn't been released, but the El Paso County Coroner reports she died from burns and smoke inhalation.

The fire was reported at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters arrived seven minutes later and found the woman near the front door.

Crews performed CPR on the woman and she was rushed to the hospital, but the woman did not survive.

In a news release from the Colorado Springs Fire Department, Fire Chief Steve Cox said, “I have total confidence in our firefighter’s abilities to respond to our city’s fires and we will continue our proactive efforts to reduce fire injuries, deaths and property damage. Our personnel will remain vigilant in their prevention and mitigation efforts.”
