D-11 is facing some tough decisions. Enrollment is down and funding has decreased over the years, so the district is now looking at their plan for the next ten years. That plan includes consolidation and the closing of 10 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and one high school over the next decade.

The high school at the top of the list is Wasson High School. The reasons include the age of the school, it celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The school also does not have air conditioning.

The plan also includes closing 2 middle schools. The top two for consideration are Irving and West middle schools.

The district is involving the community in their decisions with six community meetings/discussions scheduled to take place in January.
The board will make changes to the draft of the Utilization Study after each meeting.
The final recommendation by the steering committee to the Board of Education is scheduled for Feb. 1, 2009.

All community members are cordially invited to participate in the community meetings/discussions. All meetings are from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on the dates listed below.

Jan. 6 Mitchell High School, 1205 Potter Drive
Jan. 8 Coronado High School, 1590 West Fillmore
Jan. 12 Hillside Community Center, 925 South Institute
Jan. 13 Palmer High School, 301 North Nevada
Jan. 15 Doherty High School, 4515 Barnes Road
Jan. 20 Wasson High School, 2115 Afton Way

I went to this school awhile back and i loved it there, it should not be closed. I am in the Army now, and if it wasnt for that school and the staff i wouldnt be serving my country right now.
