Fighting crime is a never ending battle for law enforcement, but neighborhood watches add eyes and ears to the police department. There aren't enough officers to patrol everywhere all the time, but neighbors, watching out for other neighbors, can help keep homes safe.

Margareta McGovern has lived in the Park Hill neighborhood for 34 years and she has seen crime move in. "Lots of theft and vandalism going on," McGovern says.

But she says, there's no use complaining, you have to do something about it. That's why she joined her neighborhood watch and she says, it has helped and that neighborhood watch programs send a strong message. "If these people realize that the neighbors will not stand for it, they're going to go someplace else."

Contact Lori Torrini at 444-7276 or Neighborhood Watch Coordinator Dennis Moore at 444-7206 for more information on a neighborhood watch program near you.
