Small Plane Crash

The pilot of a small experimental bi-plane is dead, after the plane he was flying went down in eastern El Paso County.

The crash happened around 12:00pm on Saturday. Witnesses say the pilot was performing acrobatic maneuvers just before he went down at the Colorado Springs' East Airport located on Log Road in Ellicott.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office the man, believed to be in his 50's was an experienced pilot who was testing the plane for it's new owner.

Sheriff's deputies say they don't know exactly what caused the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the accident.

The pilot was identified as 62 year old Howard Day of Elbert.
