Actor Mel Gibson says his Christian faith inspired him to make a new film depicting the last 12 hours of Jesus' life. And Gibson says he hopes "The Passion" has the power to evangelize.

The star of the "Lethal Weapon" movie series brought his new film to Colorado Springs this week for a screening with area religious leaders. Gibson asked them to make sure his film accurately depicts the Gospel.

Focus on the Family president Don Hodel called the movie historically and theologically accurate. And National Evangelical Association president Ted Haggard says it conveys who Jesus was more accurately than any other film.

Gibson financed the $25 million film, co-wrote the script and directed and produced the movie.
