The U-S Air Force Academy has canceled the first summer session of its glider training program pending a safety review.
Brigadier General John A. Weida (WHY'-duh) grounded the glider fleet last month out of concern over the glider's ability to operate at high altitudes.
Weida is commander of the 34th Training Wing. He's asked the Air Force for help in getting the flying program back in operation, but wants the academy relieved of aircraft test duties for now.
Weida says the academy will clear up any safety issues before flying the gliders again.
The 98th Flying Training Squadron and the 557th Flying Training Squadron are continuing their training at the academy's airfield.
