High Fire Danger Returns Today

A survey by the state's Division of Fire Safety found fewer than half the state's fire departments are eligible for Fire Act Grants worth up to 100-thousand dollars.

Research by The Denver Post found many mountain districts and small volunteer fire departments do not report their fires to the state for various reasons, including lack of staff or confusing computer software.

Kevin Klein is executive director of the Colorado State Fire Chiefs Association. He says he's been trying for years to convince lawmakers to help keep accurate fire counts.
