Forest Service officials say they won't be salvaging as many fire damaged trees as previously thought, in the Hayman Burn area.
Instead of taking the estimated 17,000 acres of burned trees, they now say they'll only salvage about 10,000 acres.
The decision came after a hearing where the public got a chance to have their say. Some people were afraid the harvesting would adversely impact the Prebles Mouse habitat. Now, according to the Forest Service, that area won't be affected.
The Forest Service will begin havesting the timber from portions of the Pike National Forest north and west of Woodland Park sometime in mid-July.
