Flooding

Residents living near Gore Creek in Vail are undergoing mandatory evacuations tonight as authorities brace for more flooding.

Snowmelt and heavy rain is causing flooding and highway damage in the area. A 20-foot sinkhole has shut down Interstate 70 east of Copper Mountain. That is forcing travelers to take a 54-mile detour through leadville.

Earlier today several homes were flooded in east Vail following heavy rainfall. Eagle County authorities sent out more than 700 reverse nine-one-one calls to residents warning them of potential evacuations.
