The Department of Defense says a Canon City man was among the soldiers killed during a skirmish Tuesday in Iraq.
Thirty-four-year-old Sergeant Thomas F. Broomhead was on guard at an Iraqi checkpoint when a vehicle approached.
He was killed when the occupants of the vehicle fired on him.
Broomhead was assigned to Second Squadron, Third Armored Cavalry Regiment based at Fort Carson.
The name of a second Fort Carson-based soldier killed Tuesday has not yet been released.
Thirty-six-year-old Major Matthew E. Schram of Wisconsin died in an attack on Monday. He was also based at Fort Carson.
