The holiday season is often a difficult time for seniors. For many, the pains of lost loved ones, isolation and sadness are especially intense.

Silver Key is a non-profit organization that works year round to serve older adults in Colorado Springs.
Monday evening, the trees at Silver Key were lit up to remind people to keep seniors in their thoughts this holiday season.

The tree lighting is done along with Silver Key's Holiday project. That project gathers food boxes and practical gifts for people over 60 at Christmas time. For the 22nd consecutive year, Girl Scouts have participated in this project. They sang Christmas carols after the lighting of the tree Monday night.

Those interested in donating a gift to the giving tree program can visit one of the locations below to take part.
