Cars were traveling smoothly south-bound on Austin Bluffs Pkwy in Colorado Springs until around 6PM on Sunday night.

Its north-bound lanes were shut down near Stetson Hills Blvd. for several hours. Police say cars were slipping and sliding out of control so they blocked off lanes until a sand truck could arrive. All lanes re-opened once snow plows cleared the way.

Black Forest, which is one of several areas that got hit the hardest, got close to two-feet of snow.

"We love the snow," said Jack Gilbert who lives in Black Forest.

Parking lots packed with snow had to be cleared along with streets and sidewalks.

"It is slippery. It is slick," said Gilbert.

"I already fell twice," said Jack Lee who lives in Black Forest.

But he didn't fall because he's clumsy. It's because he's on crutches.

"I broke both of my bones above my ankle," said Lee. He says he really has to be careful walking in the snow with his crutches so that he doesn't end up breaking anymore bones.

It's been a treacherous day for anyone who had to be out in the snow. "We came out here to church and it was just crazy," said Carl Bralick who lives in Colorado Springs.

Some of the local shops even had to close early.

But apparently that's okay for residents in Black Forest. "People love to be snowed in. This kind of snow, everybody gets excited about," said Carmen Sathre who owns Black Forest Liquor Store.

"It's here, winter is here," said Gilbert.

Again as usual, just can't seem to get any sort of storm system that would " upslope " from SE into here to bring a decent dump of snow into downtown to south & west side of the city... is this the only possible pattern to ever occur - always that lousy north wind ? ... jon
