Two Fort Carson soldiers have been killed and at least nine others injured after a firefight in Iraq. All of the soldiers are from the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment.

The attack happened early Tuesday in the troubled town of Fallujah. The area has been a hotbed of support for Saddam Hussein's fallen Baath Party. The wounded soldiers were evacuated to a military aid station in the area.

On Monday, another member of the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment was killed in Iraq. He has been identified as Major Mathew Schram of Wisconsin.

LTC Tom Budzyna says Schram's unit was travelling in an eight-vehicle convoy in northern Iraq when they came under fire. At least four other soldiers were hurt. They were on a resupply mission to a base about 120 miles north of Baghdad.

"It was a normal, regularly scheduled supply convoy that was underway. This convoy would have anything from mail.. food.. water.. and ammunition, as well as spare parts, to sustain the force. While underway on Highway 12 in the vicinity of Al Ramadi, Iraq they were ambushed," said Budzyna.

U.S. Central Command says the attackers opened fire on the convoy with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades. Helicopters were sent to the area to look for those responsible.
