Littleton-based EchoStar Communications has agreed to pay $5 million to settle customer service complaints in 13 states.

The Colorado Attorney General's office announced the settlement Thursday.

Some 1,800 complaints accused EchoStar of misleading consumers on pricing and contract issues regarding its DISH Network service.

EchoStar reportedly failed to tell consumers about early termination fees and extra charges for local programming.

About $3 million of the settlement will be used to compensate consumers. The rest will go to cover the cost of the states' year-and-a-half-long investigation.
