Two days after a blast shocked the city of Pueblo, state lawmakers got a first hand look at the destruction that killed 22 year old Ashley Johnson and injured at least 7 more.
Pueblo fire chief Chris Riley lead the group on a 30 minute tour.
State senator Abel Tapia along with representative Buffie Mcfadyn and Representative-elect Sal Pace joined in.
Also on the tour was House Speaker- elect Terrance Carroll of Denver.
When he first saw the destruction, he was shocked that so many people made it out alive.
“Its absolutely amazing the destruction. These are old buildings so the brick was pretty thick, the concrete was pretty thick and to see how mangled it was, is mind boggling,” said Carroll to local media Saturday.
Pueblo Senator Abel Tapia says the initial investigation could take another three to four days and hopes for a speedy clean-up so everyone can get back to business.
“[T]here is going to be experts down here evaluating, taking a look at it, and the reason I mention that is because then the rebuilding starts, the clearing starts, and people can get back in and start making money again," said Tapia.
Pueblo fire inspector Gary Michelli says hard answers in this investigation may not come for weeks, even months.
