The president says a build-up of brush has left (m) millions of
acres vulnerable to devastating fires.
The measure would speed reviews and appeals of plans to thin
some 20 (m) million acres of national forests. A House vote could
come later today.
The president says he wants to reverse decades of what he
describes as ``well-intentioned but misguided'' policies that have
opened valuable timber land to fire and disease.
Conservation groups say the plan would sweep aside environmental
concerns -- and unfairly reward logging interests.
