In order to give a clear message that drinking and driving can kill, Fort Carson held a mock DUI accident on post.

The scenario was that there was a drunk driver that hit a car with three soldiers inside, on post, while going at a high rate of speed.

The exercise was complete with fake blood, screams, the jaws of life and a flight for life helicopter. While soldiers looked on, emergency workers had to attend to the victims, pronounce a 19-year-old soldier dead on the scene and complete a sobriety test for the drunk driver. Its an attempt to "scare them straight" according to James Forrest with the Every 15 Minute program in Colorado Springs.

This is all for Red Ribbon Week, a week set aside to make people more aware of the consequences of drug and alcohol abuse.

I hope I never have to witness an accident of any magnitude. Well, I guess a vendor bender wouldn't be so bad, but I just don't ever want to see someone flying through their windshield. -Garett Car Accident Lawyer

"The simulator features new angles on drinking and driving and how alcohol affects reaction times, motor skills and how you can develop tunnel vision. We show all the hidden dangers. We act as a drunk friend in the front seat to give drivers the full effect," he continued. "Everything is like driving a real car, so after giving them all this information, they can't say the machine is making them make errors." -------------- kimrennin DUI

I witnessed a accident similar to this about 34 years ago. We were going out to eat heading downtown on 115, we saw a car going towards traffic that were heading to Fort Carson. All of a sudden a car coming over the hill hit head on. The drunk giong the wrong way killed three soldiers and he also died. I will never forget that accident as long as I live. Please don't drink and drive.
