Tornado Rips Through Pueblo County

The worst of Sunday’s severe storms pounded Pueblo County...and in several spots a tornado caused serious damages.

By the time the wind had stopped the flooding began.

I-25 slowed to a crawl into Pueblo as the water covered the highway, rushing over culverts that might as well have been rivers.

“I never expected it,” said business owner Robert Lucero.

In Pueblo West it wasn't water that damaged his hot rod shop it was the tornado.

“Fortunately it wasn't as bad as we thought it was,” said Lucero after surveying the damage.

But it was bad enough to smash windows, uproot trees, and put a hole in his roof, not to mention push parked cars twenty feet from their spots. What surprised Lucero the most was the damage to the shop’s interior.

“The walls on the inside are all coming down,” he explained.

“It was just dark and windy with a lot of debris which I think chipped the paint on my car,” said Lisa Clough. She saw the tornado coming down as she drove home from the grocery store. It hit her car broadside leaving its mark on almost every piece of glass.

“It shattered all the windows,” she said.

Clough and her two kids are okay. She says after trying once, she's learned, she'll never try to outrun a tornado again.

“I feel relieved,” she said. “We made it safely home.”
