The Defense Department has identified the three Fort Carson soldiers who were killed in a helicopter crash in Iraq.

The soldiers have been identified as 39-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Brian K. Van Dusen of Columbus, Ohio; 31-year-old Chief Warrant Officer Hans N. Gukeisen of Lead, South Dakota; and 26-year-old Sergeant Richard P. Carl of King Hill, Idaho. Carl was postumously promoted from Corporal to Sergeant.

The three were aboard a UH-60 air medical helicopter that crashed in the Tigris River during a rescue operation last Friday. The soldiers were trying to rescue an Iraqi child wounded in an explosion. A fourth soldier survived and was able to swim to shore.

A memorial service for the three soldiers will be held Friday morning on post at Fort Carson.
