Colorado's Per Capita Income Declining

By: Associated Press

Per capita income in Colorado declined last year for the first time since 1954. A report by the U-S Bureau of Economic Analysis suggests the decline was the result of thousands of people being laid off.

Colorado was the only state to report declining per capita income in 2002, though growth was weak in most industrial states.

Per-capita income in Colorado last year fell 0.5% to $33,276 per year from the $33,455 mark set in 2001. Despite that slight drop, the state ranked ninth for per-capita income last year. Nationally, personal income rose 1.7%
