Nearly 300 family members, friends and fellow soldiers paid tribute Wednesday to a fallen Fort Carson private killed in Iraq.
Thirty-four-year-old Private First Class Jesse Givens died Thursday when his tank fell into the Euphrates River about 50 miles west of Baghdad.
Three others escaped but Givens was trapped under water. He was the first soldier from a Fort Carson unit to die in Iraq.
A picture of Givens sat atop the altar at a Fort Carson chapel during a memorial service Wednesday morning. A 21-gun salute and the playing of ``Taps'' followed later.
Givens' body is still at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. It's expected to be returned within the next week.
His body will be cremated. The ashes will be taken to Missouri for final burial.
