The Swedish Medical Center Southwest emergency room is now open after being closed for more than eight hours yesterday because of a suspicious letter containing a white power.
Hospital spokeswoman Julie Lonborg says the emergency room was evacuated about two p.m. when employees found the substance.
Three employees who were exposed to the letter were decontaminated as a precaution, but no injuries were reported.
She says authorities from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the Littleton Fire Department and Buckley Air Force Base investigated.
It eventually was determined the substance wasn't hazardous.
The ER reopened at 10:45 p.m.
An ambulance was available for ill patients who needed emergency treatment.
Lonborg says one patient required the service, though she didn't know if the patient was transported elsewhere.
