Firefighters Die on Way to Hayman Fire

(Parachute-AP) -- The driver of a van that crashed while carrying firefighters to the Hayman Fire has been ordered to appear in court on six charges.

Twenty-one-year-old Megan Helm was issued a summons Saturday to appear on four counts of careless driving causing death and two counts of careless driving causing serious bodily injury.

Helm was behind the wheel when the 15-passenger van rolled four times on Interstate 70 near Parachute Friday night. Four firefighters were killed and seven others injured.

The crew from Oregon was part of an eight-van caravan headed to help battle the Hayman Fire burning 137 thousand acres southwest of Denver.

More than 70 firefighters involved in the caravan are getting grief counseling.
