Roads are icy in spots that saw accumulating snow yesterday. Allow yourself plenty of extra time this morning and dress warmly, as wind chills are in the single digits and teens for many. Two Republican legislators say they'll introduce a bill legislation to redraw congressional districts right before the session ends. The lawmakers asked not to be identified.
Democrats say they've heard the proposal is designed specifically to protect the boundaries of the new Seventh Congressional District. Republican Bob Beauprez is the district's first representative. The suburban Denver district is currently divided evenly among Republicans, Democrats and unaffiliated voters.
State Senate Minority Leader Joan Fitz-Gerald of Golden calls it the ultimate political power grab. Lawmakers typically redraw congressional district boundaries after the release of census figures. It's unusual for it to occur at other times.
