Officer Impersonation Bill

The mother of murdered college student Lacy Miller watched as Owens signed the bill into law today.

The 20-year-old Miller was abducted and killed near her home in January.

Twenty-two-year-old Jason Peder Clausen posed as a police officer to pull over Miller. He was sentenced to life in prison earlier this month.

The new law increases the penalty for impersonating a peace officer to 18 months in jail and a fine up to $5,000. That's up from a year behind bars and a $1,000 fine.

The law takes effect Thursday.
