Two people allegedly on their way to rob a store at gunpoint in Cotopaxi are in custody after authorities say they foiled a plot to hold up a number of Fremont County businesses.

A confidential informant tipped off Salida police about alleged plans the two had to rob several businesses in the area. Investigators from the Chaffee County Sheriff's Department and the district attorney's office were called in to assist.

Sheriff Tim Walker says a multi-agency operation intercepted several telephone calls indicating the suspects planned to launch their crime spree Monday.

Officers stationed along U.S. 50 spotted the two as they were allegedly en route to Cotopaxi to rob an unidentified store.

They were arrested without incident.

No names were released.
