CANON CITY, Colo. (AP) -- Larry A. Lovato had been accused of growing approximately $60,000 worth of marijuana plants in a backyard garden.

He was initially charged with felony cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana, retaliation against a witness, and unlawful possession and use of methamphetamine.

The 48-year-old Lovato entered his plea to the misdemeanor marijuana possession charge yesterday in Fremont County District Court.

Prosecutors dropped the other charges.

Sentencing is set for Oct. 15.

Normally I'd say something in support of marijuana legalization here, but because of this guy's possession/use of methamphetamine, I say he's an embarrassment to all of the responsible, mature users (not abusers) of marijuana and should be punished.
