A golden retriever that disappeared from his home in Georgia last December has turned up nearly 425 miles away in Florida.

Flea-infested and filthy, the 7-year-old dog named Pepper wandered into a St. Petersburg travel agency late last month. Luckily, Pepper had a microchip implanted under his skin, allowing a Florida veterinarian to trace Pepper to his owners.

Back at home in Atlanta, Pepper is up to his old tricks. His owners says he steals shoes and leaves them in exactly the same places he used to. It's unclear where Pepper spent his many months of wandering.
