But now it looks like they burned far fewer acres than initially
estimated.
A new report by the Rocky Mountain Coordination Center concludes
that 46-hundred fires burned just over 619-thousand acres in
Colorado.
That's down from the 915-thousand-acre total estimated by the
National Interagency Fire Center last year.
Officials say the difference most likely lies in how the two
centers report acreage.
A spokeswoman for the National Interagency Fire Center says much
of the discrepancy stems from double or triple reporting of fires.
Spokeswoman Rose Davis says the center has not determined whether
it will revise its figure.
Last year's wildfire season was the most destructive in state
history. Nine firefighters were killed and at least 235 homes were
destroyed.
