When you head to the polls in November, build in some extra time. This year’s ballot in Colorado is the longest ballot we've seen since 1912.
Everyone can expect to vote on at least 42 questions.
"That's unbelievable, that's a novel," said one voter.
"The ballot is large, it's 18 inches long, both sides, people definitely want to take their time and study before they go to their polling place," said El Paso County Election Manager Liz Olson.
There are 18 amendments just from the state alone on everything from abortion to gambling to taxes on oil and gas companies.
"Honestly I don't think I will read through every bit, I’ll just go straight to the questions that affect me," said another voter.
Like the race for president, if you thought you were just choosing between John McCain and Barack Obama, you're wrong, there are actually 16 choices for president.
The Clerk and Recorder's Office suggests either early voting or absentee voting.
"We've got a record number of absentee for the election already, our first mailing goes out on the 3rd of October and we're mailing close to 120,000 ballots," Olson said.
But if you decide to head to the polls, be prepared to wait in line, along with a long ballot there will also be a record number of voters.
All registered voters should get a TABOR Notice and a Blue Book in the mail to help them understand the questions on this year’s ballot.
Also some important dates to note, these are for both El Paso and Pueblo counties.
- The last day to register to vote is Monday, October 6th.
- The last day to request an absentee ballot is October 28th.
- Early voting runs from October 20th through October 31st.
Early voting can be done at the Clerk and Recorder’s Office, The Citadel Mall and Chapel Hills Mall.
