COLLBRAN, Colo. (AP) -- Authorities say three men found dead in a plane that crashed in western Colorado were all from Mesa County.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says the wreckage was found Thursday night in a remote area east of Collbran, about 5 miles from the nearest road. The identities of the men on board haven't been released yet.

The sheriff's office says the single-engine Piper PA-24 took off earlier in the day from the Mack Mesa airport -- 35 northwest of Grand Junction -- for a flight to check on livestock on Grand Mesa. A search began after it was reported overdue.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating. The cause hasn't been determined.
