2 Western Colo. Post Office Spared From Closure

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) -- Two western Colorado post offices will be spared from a round of nationwide closures.

U.S. Postal Service spokesman David Rupert told The Daily Sentinel that the Gateway and Rico offices will remain open because people would have to travel too far to other locations to get their mail.

Gateway resident Don McLaughlin says the nearest post office is 45 miles away in Whitewater.

The Postal Service is still looking at closing four other Western Slope post offices as it looks to save money. They are Molina on Grand Mesa, Lazear, near Hotchkiss; Ophir, near Telluride and Paradox in western Montrose County.
