The Colorado man who shot himself to death after a 40-mile police chase, gun battle and head-on crash in northern Nevada has been identified. The head-on crash killed an innocent, elderly motorist, whose name has also been released.

Nevada troopers say 22-year-old Eric Allen of Peyton shot at officers after he collided with the 75-year-old motorist while attempting to elude authorities.

Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen, no relation to the suspect, says Eric Allen then turned the handgun on himself at a busy intersection in Fallon, Nev., Thursday morning.

A Churchill County sheriff's deputy was hit in the cheek by either a bullet fragment or a shard of glass. He was not seriously injured.

The motorist killed has been identified as Walter Summers of Richland, Missouri.

Troopers say Eric Allen was a passenger in a car with Arkansas license plates that was stopped by tribal police for speeding. Eric Allen then allegedly pushed the driver out of the car and fled.
