Fort Carson officials won't be filling 74 vacant civilian jobs there.
Officials say that's because legislative fights in Congress over paying for wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is decreasing funds to the Army post.
Garrison commander Colonel Michael Resty says Fort Carson could be running in the red by the end of the month.
Resty says the base is cutting nearly nine million dollars from its 23 million dollar base operations budget through September.
But it will still have to deal with a four million dollar shortfall unless it gets some emergency cash from Congress.
Fort Carson employs 44-hundred civilians.
