Victims Recount Terrifying Night

Colorado Springs Police are investigating a terrifying home invasion near Academy and Palmer Park.

What’s scary is just how the suspect got inside the home. The victims say a man reached through their open window to unlock the door and got inside their home while the married couple was asleep upstairs.

"My hearing aids were out and I sensed a presence in my house," the woman said. We’re withholding their names for their protection.

When you hear the story, it's quite chilling. The couple woke up at 2am to this…"I looked up and screamed. I had a gun pointed at me and a person I didn't know," the woman said.
Her husband shared the same fear, saying, "You don't know if it's a dream. "

They said the strange man in their bedroom started asking where their safe was, where their money was and began ransacking their home. “I had a cross on, and I was clutching it and praying. I figured we were gonna die," the woman said.

The victims said the man was there for more than 30 minutes, and at times, made himself at home, even asking for a soda. At one point, the woman says the man implied he would sexually assault her, but he didn't follow through. As soon as the suspect turned his head for a second…"I said, ‘let's go’ and we took off running."

They escaped their own home and immediately called police, but the suspect got away. The couple says the suspect didn't get away with much. They say they're just glad they're alive.

The suspect is described as Hispanic between 5’8” and 6’ tall. The victims say he was wearing dark pants, a red jersey with the number 82 in gold and a black rag over his face.

If you have any information about the home invasion, call Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP in Colorado Springs or 542-STOP in Pueblo.
