Artificial Turf Drought Friendly

The rain gave many southern Coloradans a break from watering. But homeowners are still looking for ways to save water while the state is still in a drought.

Artificiall turf companies have responded with a variety of options for a waterless lawn. Unlike real grass, artificial grass doesn't require a sprinkling system a lawn mower or a turf permit. Some people even say they think it looks better than the real thing.

The faux grass, which is made from recycled tires, costs about $6.00 per square foot. The cost is about two times that of regular sod, but many people say it pays for itself with the amount of water they save.

Residential homes are not the only places the artificial turf is taking hold, the nation's first fake grass golf course is expected to be build in Mancos, Colorado very soon.
