Funeral services are pending for a fifth soldier with Colorado ties who died during fighting in Iraq. Army Sergeant Donald Walters of Kansas City was one of eight missing soldiers from the 507th Maintenance company based in Fort Bliss, Texas.
His family confirms that his body was among those discovered at the Iraqi hospital where Private First Class Jessica Lynch was rescued.
The 33-year-old Walters was born in Colorado Springs and attended James Madison Elementary School. His family moved from Colorado when he was ten years old.
Walters was a Gulf War veteran who returned to active duty following the September eleventh terrorist attacks.
Friends and family members say Walters considered Colorado his home no matter where else his travels took him.
