Columbine Memorial Plans

Family members have unveiled plans for a memorial to victims of the worst school shooting in U.S. history. The memorial will be next to Columbine High School in Clement Park.

The families said today at a news conference that each parent is helping design an individual memorial for their child. The memorial will cover a full acre and cost three million dollars. Donations will pay for the construction. So far, nearly $600,000 has been raised through donations.

The memorial will be built between two hills to keep it private and avoid interfering with school activities. Parents hope it can be completed before the fifth anniversary of the attack, which will be in April of 2004.

Two teenage gunmen shot 12 students and a teacher to death before killing themselves in April 1999.
