A mass funeral for a 61-year-old Denver firefighter is scheduled for today.
Lieutenant Rich Montoya died on Sunday after suffering a fatal heart attack while fighting a house fire a week earlier.
Fire department spokesman Lieutenant Phil Champagne says the 30-year department veteran was only 15 shifts from retirement when he was injured on May 14th.
Montoya was trying to get his crew out of a pitch-black bedroom when he became trapped under a mattress.
Sixteen-year-old Raquel Gutierrez was rescued from the burning home.
Montoya's funeral mass is scheduled to be held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Denver, with the burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
A reception also is planned at the Colorado Convention Center.
