The following is a news release from the Colorado Springs Police Department Friday afternoon:

The Colorado Springs Police Department today charged 34-year-old Karin Atkinson with First Degree Murder stemming from the stabbing death of 18-year-old Nathaniel Hughes which occurred on August 20, 2008 at 3024 W. Bijou Street.

Ms. Atkinson had previously been charged as an Accessory to First Degree Murder related to this case, however further investigation and evidence resulted in the First Degree Murder arrest today.

Ms. Atkinson was out on bond from the previous charges, and was arrested without incident by El Paso County Sheriffs Deputies this afternoon upon her arrival at the El Paso County Courthouse for a related legal proceeding.

PLEASE PRINT A RETRACTION!!! Your 3rd paragraph, "Ms. Hughes had previously been charged ..." SHOULD READ ATKINSON. I expect that you will do a better job proofing in the future. Jim Hughes

Who is Ms Hughs? Is her first name Nathaniel? I am confused.

Ah, Ms. Hughes was NOT charged -- it was Ms. Atkinson

This needs to be fixed. Ms. Hughes (Nathan's mom) had nothing to do with this. It should be Ms. Atkinson.
