Health insurance for your pet is becoming more and more popular.
Insurance can range from $25-50 a month per pet and it can cover anything from teeth cleaning to chemotherapy for these guys.
For one Colorado Springs doggie mother, Annie Scholze, said her two dogs are her kids. “They love going to the dog park and hiking Barr Trail," said Scholze.
Lucy, the lab, is older than Jake and the two are best buddies.
Lucy got sick in February. "She developed Pancreatitis. She was in the hospital and had to get hydrated. She had to stay there until her pancreas was healed and it was a pretty hefty bill," said Scholtze.
Most of that hefty bill, though, was taken care of because Lucy has health insurance. “It would've been $800 or so. You make a claim, pay the $50 deductible. Then, it’s 90-10 coverage after that."
"The reason vet insurance started was because vets were disheartened when pets got euthanized because owners couldn't afford life saving treatments," said Brian Iannessa with Veterinary Pet Insurance.
One thing to note is that many of the pet insurance companies won't cover the animal's pre-existing condition if it has one, but may still cover the animal for other veterinary needs.
There's even companies that now offering pet insurance to their employers.
