Three times in recent weeks, Colorado Springs Utilities has reported someone posing as an employee approaching people at their homes each time, asking for money. Most recently, the imposter was seen in a neighborhood near Jet Wing Drive and Fountain Boulevard.

The street in this Colorado Springs neighborhood is quiet, but word traveled fast that an imposter has been at work.

"I think that's terrible that someone can go to someones door saying they work for the company and they do whatever they did," said resident Heather Frazier.

In all three cases including the most recent, the imposter's asked for money. Colorado Springs Utilities did not provide a description of the suspicious person.

"We've have a few more this year and a few more closer together," said Colorado Springs Utilities spokesperson Natalia Siebert.

There are Springs Utilities employees, who go out to pick up payments, but they'll typically try to set up an appointment first and they will always have a company identification badge.

"It's okay to close the door and go into your house and call 448-4800 and ask for verification someone is supposed to be there," Siebert said.

An imposter has been seen in two separate neighborhoods miles away from Heather Frazier’s.

Even so, residents like Heather are now keeping a closer eye on who's coming to the door.

"Now that he's around here. Definitely," she said.

Each of the imposter cases has been reported to police. Colorado Springs Utilities asks anyone who encounters someone posing as one of its employees to call 448-4800.

How about we call 911 instead of 448-4800 so the person could possibly be apprehended for once ?

gee, tom. this can happen any time, any where. with any kind of crime. why don't YOU come up with a solution, instead of just making a very general request. why don't YOU start up a neighborhood watch program and make a difference instead of just waiting for someone (or the police) to catch criminals. just a thought i had.
