The El Paso County Wild land Fire unit was starting fires today instead of putting them out, all for the sake of training. The newest crew members on the wild land fire suppression team just completed forty classroom hours on basic wild land fire behavior..
Today was their chance to actually get out and fight a real fire.
They practiced creating hand lines, fire breaks and other methods of containing a wild fire.
All the new trainee's are volunteers, and must complete a set of predetermined skills before graduating and hitting the front lines.
