For deployed soldiers, there's nothing better than receiving messages from home. Now, those messages can include the sound of your voice.
Colorado Springs-based Marick Technologies has launched a website for spouses and family members of deployed military personnel.
Here's how it works: The company activates an account for you and gives you an ID number. You call a local telephone number and leave a voicemail. It's then converted into an audio file and sent as an attachment to the e-mail address of the service member.
"I’m ex-Navy. I've spent time in the Persian Gulf. And I understand what it means to be away and the comfort of receiving a letter. And they're receiving e-mail, but how about hearing your wife's voice? My service does that," says Rick Slavens, the owner of Marick Technologies.
The service is free for the first 2 months. After that, users have the option of dropping it, or paying for additional time.
