The home remodeling industry is gearing up for the graying of America.

A survey of remodelers by the National Association of Home Builders shows that industry expects a big impact over the next five years as most older people have yet to prepare their homes for life's inevitable changes.

Because the majority of seniors want to "age-in-place," many will have to make special home modifications in order to live safely and independently.

To help, Certified Aging-in-Place have put out a checklist for what a home should contain.

Among them are levered door handles, wider hallways or stairs, and non-slip surfaces.
